the Kandori-Sato shoot
« on: September 11, 2008, 10:31:35 AM »
I just read somehting:

"When a female wrestler named Shinobu Kandori, a former Judo national champion, broke the code and demolished a star wrestler Jackie Sato in the bloodshed, the promoters confined Kandori for three days at the hotel, and eventually, she was forced to leave, not only the business, but the country for a while. (She actually went down as low as washing dishes at Japanese restaurant in New York City but she made a comeback and now became one of the most popular women pro-wrestlers in Japan)"

here's the link to the whole article about shoots in puroresu
http://www.boutreviewusa.com/SpecialFeatures/16PRIDEcuarticle4.html

do you know if the story about Kandori is true? did she really have to leave the business and the country? It looks quite absurd.... *crazy

I've never heard that story before. The author was Japanese so it's probably true, but the New York part seems a stretch. She left JWP in July '87 and became a freelancer. That's the reason you sometimes see her in the crowd on AJW shows. IIRC she was the first Joshi wrestler to freelance in Japan.

The author was Japanese so it's probably true...
That's not good logic.

Maybe so, but I'm more inclined to believe a Japanese writer knows what they're talking about. He obviously got the story from somewhere. I doubt she was washing dishes in NY because she was ostracised from the pro-wrestling community, but her being in NY fits the timeline. It's probably a work, but better that than the speculation you see on boards like SSS.

Well, the author also still believes the Ogawa "shoot" on Hashimoto was legit,...which may have seemed so at the time, but we have since come to learn otherwise.
