This was a treat for me, Meiko as a teenage in the US.  I just kills me, with the talent in Japan, why we see so little of it here!

Still this is good stuff, enjoy

Wow, thanks for that, never seen that before. Who's the other wrestler?

The first match was from one of WCW's C-level weekend shows, against Malia Hosaka.  This was probably taped in late 1996, when WCW brought over several GAEA workers, including Akira Hokuto, Chigusa Nagayo (doing the Zero gimmick), KAORU, Meiko, and Sonoko Kato to tape the tournament for the WCW Women's championship and several of these short throw-away matches for the syndicated shows.  Meiko and Sonoko were very young and were used mainly as spunky young jobbers.  Hokuto, of course, won the tournament, beating Madusa in the finals at Starrcade at the end of 1996.  Incidentally, she had competed earlier in the tournament as both herself and her Reyna Jabuki lucha gimmick.  Reyna jobbed to Madusa  *haha

The second match is from March 30, 1997 episode of Monday Night Nitro and is a WCW Women's Cruiserweight tournament semifinal match against Toshie Uematsu.  Meiko, Sonoko, and Toshie were sent over with Hokuto, who was feuding with Madusa over the main women's belt.  This, I believe, is the only WCW Women's Cruiserweight match that ever made tape, as the other semifinal and the final (Toshie beating Malia in a dark match at the Spring Stampede PPV) have never surfaced.  In fact, the existence of the WCW Women's Cruiserweight belt was never mentioned again.  The belt went back to Japan and was briefly used as a secondary belt in GAEA, as Toshie dropped it to Yoshiko Tamura at an early version of Junior All Stars, who then lost it to Sugar Sato before the belt was dropped.

On the same Nitro, Hokuto had a lousy match with Debbie Combs and got into a post-match brawl with Madusa.  You can see Meiko, Sonoko, and Toshie in their GAEA tracksuits trying to break up the fight.  Hokuto had a successful defense of her title at the Spring Stampede show over Madusa, helped by interference from Luna Vachon.

Hokuto came back in June 1997 and beat Madusa in a match where Madusa had to "retire" due to stipulation.  Hokuto and the WCW Woman's Championship were never seen again.  I think Akira still has the actual title belt.  I seem to remember a photo from the Kensuke Family blog with the WCW and V-Tops belts.

Oooooh thanks for all that information! :)  *approve

Thank you young lady, I assume we are talking about this link, http://1joshi.blogspot.com/

I'm always willing to expand my knowledge base and this looks to be most accommodating for that objective.

You know, to sound random...
With Meiko's connections with Chiggy,
you think by the time Sendai Girls gains more
and more popularity and wrestlers, you think
it would sound too far fetched to revive the
AAAW titles, only to be used alot better than before  ?

A high coincidence in the mindset of Chigusa Nagayo...except the
AAAW title looked better

That's an old picture from before Mizunami joining Sendai Girls.  Notice Okuda's in the picture on the far right; she's the one who quit Sendai.

It's the promotion's signature colors, that is, up until all of the ladies develop their in-ring persona.

Meiko was "traffic chief" or something similar for the day in Sendai.  If anyone has a thing for ladies in uniform, then here you go.

lmao!  Thanks for that amazing image that is now in my head.  I noticed she said something like their main concern is decreasing drink drivers.  Hopefully her test for alchohol is how long it takes them to get up after Scorpio Rising!  I was also really amused by her comment about getting the woman to help her straighten out her tie as she has no idea how to do it.

This could work as an actual gimmick
