I think Alexa Thatcher is further proof, not everyone is about getting in to the big companies. She's hotter than hell, with two of the most beautiful eyes I've ever seen, and is still working for Maheken. Probably on her own dime, instead of paying for implants.
And I officially love Alexa after her match with melissa. She's officially proven she can go with the best of them.

She even said in an interview that she doesn't see herself in 5 years being in TNA or WWE because she doesn't feel it's something for her.

That is probably a wise decision on her part. It is quite nice to hear someone is involved with the wrestling business because they love doing it as opposed to just seeking super-stardom.

She got into it because of her boyfriend(She is definitely not at all superficial if you've seen him). And he trained her for a while, and then she trained at a few schools along with him.

She can hit quite hard, and I love her standing bulldog. I'm not a big fan of her finisher, but other than that I love her. She's even not afraid to stiff and get stiffed.

now that word has it that IBUKI is planning to go into an interpromotional deal with SHIMMER and Chickfight, shall we see an outpouring of gaijins then?

Ooh, didn't realise there was an all-purpose thread for gaijins. Having seen quite a bit of the late 70's-80's joshi I've got a fair idea of the gaijin women I've been impressed with.

Obviously Monster Ripper, but also Cheryl Day and Lena Blair (a British wrestler) stuck out in my mind. There was also this entertaining black wrestler called Yvonne Jennings, who appeared a few times in Zenjo and then disappeared. I *think* she was trained by Mildred Burke (frankp316 might know/clarify that). She was a trash talking type heel as seen in a match she had with Jackie Sato-this one's on YouTube and it includes a VERY FUNNY pre-match interview where she attacks the interviewer after one of his questions about the match.

As for others who came later, probably Leilani Kai-she improved a lot wrestling in Japan. Those matches with Chigusa are among her best. Not sure how much Wendi Richter and Velvet McIntyre worked in Japan but I like their work too. I recall from that 80's women's Survivor Series match, Velvet was the 2nd best in it after the JB Angels. Really athletic girl. Shame none of them could become bigger stars (Wendi was but is barely mentioned anymore after the screwjob incident), thanks to Moolah's monopoly of everything women's wrestling. Ironcially a lot of Moolah-trained girls turned out to be much better than herself (whereas Jaguar was a fantastic wrestler AND trained several waves of great wrestlers too).

The 90's it was all about Debbie. I believe I've already written about her. Reggie Bennett was fucking terrible when she first arrived in Japan but she improved a lot to become decent. Really liked Esther Moreno too.

screwjob (i think) is when someone refused to do a clean job so the bookers messed up with the ending instead
saywhaat, please elaborate on the screwjob incident with wendi
i read some press releases about her saying that the reason she got released by WWF then is because she started asking too much money (i don't want to believe that ... yet)

Or you can just watch her say it herself...

...though "too much" is probably subjective. Perhaps a better way to put it would be that she overestimated her value to the WWF. While she was entitled to ask for more money, it's safe to say the promotion carried on just fine without her as it would have without just about any of the talent. That is the unenviable position wrestlers place themselves in with promoters.

Screwjob...

Because Moolah was in it.

Blown spots don't make a bad match. Some of the most noted matches in history have awkward moments. Humans aren't perfect and shouldn't be. A worked wrestling match that is intended to tell a serious story should look like a fight, not a dance. Bad wrestlers like Moolah, however, tend to make for bad matches.

It's ironic because Mae Young is seen as the goofy sidekick of Moolah, yet I've read about how she was a great wrestler in her prime in the 40's. If she had more influence over US women's wrestling, I'm sure she'd have done so much more than Moolah, and carrying on the legacy of Burke et al. Someone wrote about the Lipstick and Dynamite film on the old SC, saying that while Moolah came off as generally unlikeable, they gained much respect for Mae after watching it.

Mae could probably stretch most of us right now, from all accounts. If ladies like Byers and Burke had gotten the foothold on women's professional wrestling that Moolah had in her relationship with Vince J. McMahon, Byers and Burke would be revered like Sato and Yakoto are in joshi pro wres. I believe things would be a lot different... like history changing different and hardcore fan perspective different.

i remember watching on dailymotion one time how wrestling came about in the US then with interviews from Moolah and how she admitted that she simply got into wrestling for the money (or for the moolah) hence the name. then mildred burke was mentioned as one who'd pick a random guy from the audience to challenge him to a wrestling match (it wasn't noted though if it was a work or a shoot).

i think it's from this playlist i dug from dailymotion where it was discussed

No, we told you that you had placed the thread in the wrong part of the forum.

And yes no one honestly took the claim that she might seriously. But since she is going to japan, w00t to that.
