How much sense would it make for Tateno's first show in awhile and official retirement to include people who weren't around when she was around?

I can only think of one reason for Kurihara to be that high on the card: it's because she's the chosen. She's the most over new gen, she's considered the most entertaining by a lot of people and she's the "it" girl for the future. She's going to get some kind of rub by being there.

I doubt RINGSTARS would go along with that booking unless she got a HUGE bonus to kill her heat THE DAY BEFORE her biggest singles title match of her career in NEO on 10/11.

I mean, we kinda knew that Ayumi was put into the match so that Noriyo could give her the rub...but some haters of the new school didn't seem to believe it.  Knock on wood, but Ayumi's looking more and more likely to be the last NEO/NWA Pacific Champion...
