News & Results / Re: JWP Project
« on: November 03, 2016, 05:40:07 AM »
So in recent news, Arisa won back the JWP title from Kyoko Kimura (who beat her for it back in October) at their November Korakuen show (she's also now tied with Azumi Hyuga for most reigns with the JWP Championship at four). After the match, Arisa announced she will be leaving JWP to become a freelancer! Hanako Nakamori came out and made a challenge for the belt on their year-ending show at Korakuen on December 28th, which will also be Arisa's final match as a JWP wrestler.

Rabbit Miu also announced that she is retiring after December's show as well to get married.

This is a pretty big loss for JWP, Arisa has been their ace even since she came back in 2012 and won the belt almost immediately, and it seems likely that Nakamori will win the belt but I'm not she really has the "it" factor Arisa has to carry JWP. Manami Katsu is obviously being groomed to be the next Hyuga/Nakajima of the promotion but who knows how long it will take before she's ready. Sucks to see Rabbit retire too, I'm not sure if she ever would've won the JWP belt because of how small she is, but she's a great worker and one of JWP's best young wrestlers.

I'm not sure what Arisa's plans are going from here, maybe she'll join SEAdLINNNG since she's become a regular over there or maybe (hopefully) will show up in STARDOM. Hell, maybe she even wants to get into WWE with the success Kana has been having over there and the rumors of Io and Hojo being offered contracts as well as the rumored international women's tournament being in the works.

JWP (as well as Ice Ribbon) really should get on board with streaming services like STARDOM and WAVE. It sucks that all of their major shows have been regressed to a single camera. Plus it'd just be a nice place for them to put their old stuff from the 90's through to the Hyuga era in the 00's. Some of their best shows and matches from those years can't be found online anymore unless someone uploads them (which never last long anyway).

Meiko, Chisako and Cassandra are representing SENDAI at Chikara's King of Trios this year.

Bolshoi, Nakamori and Katsu will be representing JWP at CHIKARA's King of Trios this year. Pretty surprised Katsu is getting an oppourtunity like this so soon after returning over Nakajima or even Hagane or Rabbit. She's probably going to be pushed to the moon very quickly, just like Nakajima when she returned in 2012.

I've been going through the previous decade of Joshi recently and these were two matches involving big names of that era that I realized never actually happened.

Momoe Nakanishi vs Azumi Hyuga
Momoe Nakanishi vs Meiko Satomura

I imagine these might have happened somewhere down the road if Momoe hadn't retired when she did, especially with AJW and GAEA folding shortly after and the smaller promotions would've wanted some more star power.

Awesome news! She was a huge loss when she originally retired as it seemed obvious she would be the one to take over the ace position after Arisa.

Reviving Kyoko's thread to announce that she's gotten married! A pic from Bolshoi's twitter:

JWP 12/27/2015 - JWP Tag & Daily Sports Tag Championship: Jumonji Sisters (DASH Chisako & Sendai Sachiko) (c) vs. Best Friends (Arisa Nakajima & Tsukasa Fujimoto)
Exhilarating roller coaster chock full of innovative double teams and GERMAN SUPLEX WARZ. Best Friends/Thunder Rock has to happen this year. plz. ***3/4

Ice Ribbon 12/31/2015 - International Ribbon Tag Team Championship: Best Friends (Arisa Nakajima & Tsukasa Fujimoto) (c) vs. Avid Rival (Misaki Ohata & Ryo Mizunami)
About as wonderfully violent as you'd expect from any match involving Nakajima/Ohata/Mizunami in the same ring. Fujimoto is there to get DESTROYED. Her size and general likability makes for a good FIP, and a good comeback. Excellent clash. ****

Do you know where these matches are available? I'm trying to get back into current joshi and I've seen a lot of praise for these matches elsewhere.

Does anyone know the name of the song that Ayako used as her theme in 2006/2007 during her runs in NEO and SENDAI?

So what are recently some good places to buy joshi DVDs? Since Youtube took down basically all of the big Joshi channels (and continue to do so whenever a new channel pops up with good stuff), I've taken it upon myself to begin buying a lot of the shows I want to watch again. I recently purchased a Joshi For Dummies blu ray set and a best of Joshi from 2003 and 2004 set from RudoReels, but their collection of Joshi is somewhat limited. I've checked Wrestling Emporium as well and they have extensive lists of AJW, GAEA, JWP, ARSION, etc. but their DVD's are pretty pricey coming in at $15 each.

Putting the belt back on Haruyama is a horrible decision. The promotion's new ace losing the belt to the old ace doesn't benefit them in any way. I know Arisa has had the belt for a while now but I thought they may as well have waited until Nakamori came back from injury to take the belt off of her.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and predict Arisa wins the ICEx∞ belt and retains the JWP belt, and heads into 2015 as a double-crown champion. It'll be pretty lame if they go the predictable route and both retain their respective belts.

I don't see why JWP and the other joshi promotions don't get TV time anymore but all of the ghost promotions with old veterans past their prime putting on sub-par matches do. It's just blatant sexism.

Shit, that's sad that her career had to end like that so abruptly, not that I wouldn't have been surprised if she (or other women of her generation) announced their retirement in the next few years.

And I believe that makes her the last of the Four JWP Super Rookies(her, Azumi Hyuga, Ran Yu Yu and Kanako Motoya) to retire from wrestling.

I'm shocked they managed to draw that much, tbh. But I'm happy that they've been consistently drawing good numbers at Korakuen lately.

Out of all the women in Japan right now, I wouldn't have expected Hiroyo to get a tryout with WWE. I thought girls like Kana or Io would fit WWE's aesthetic more.

Good luck to her, I hope it leads somewhere. NXT has some nice talent and I think she would fit in quite well there.

I don't think Abe is a big enough name that they can have her retirement match headline the show.

Korakuen card is looking great! Will be interested to see how this one draws after their past two, although I think it'll probably drop back to their usual 800 range.

I think Katsu will drop the belt so she can take time off and heal her injury.

Kana vs Meiko - Kana Pro Mania

When did this happen? Is it available?

Kana also had that awesome war with Carlos Amano at OZ. No coincidence. Best joshi worker in the world.

One of the best right now, but I'd wager to say Arisa is better.

The Lil' Huntys won! *approve

Arisa vs Kimura is gonna be amazing! Too bad we'll have to wait 6 months to see it.
